it's very strange how NOT ONE of the people from the bin laden compound has been paraded in front of the media the way they usually do;
where is the wife, the kids, the other people from inside who can corroborate the (ever-changing) tale?
who do we only have the word of the US military & gov't?
it has gone away in the media now...story accepted..."mission accomplished"
the people drink some more kool-aid;
and libya continues...the american gov't has unlimited authority to bomb & kill wherever they say it is needed...and the population keeps silent...

explain to me how you or millions of others choosing to believe or not to believe he story will have any impact on rights or freedoms?

its a good sound bite to say you not buying the gov line because you are concerned about the tyranny of government ..but the bottom line is that it will have absolutely no impact on the way they proceed. what rights do you have left that you are fighting to protect? you might be more delusional that the people who are "drinking the koolaid" if you think you actually have rights.

so they make up stores to make their actions more palatable to the masses ...if the stories no longer work will they change their course?

I think RichD did ask a valid question. Under what circumstance do people admit to accepting an account that contradicts what they wish to believe? It's not that common of an occurrence.

If they marched the whole living lot of the compound out on camera 5 minutes afterward, fault would still be found. There would be disputes over translations of what they actually said. A next set would say it was a group of actors as if anybody in here knew them. I'm sure anybody who knows them that well has already called and gotten the scoop.

Sometimes it's not worth putting forth any level of effort to prove a thing when you know people are staunch hard in their positions. And personally, if I had been in the compound, I would not be bothered with going on tv for a soul. What for? Just leave me in peace and let me go on bout my way.

what is the challenge you are making? and what are the grounds of your challenge? or is it challenge for challenges sake?

most of the time what i hear is a challenge of the intellect and logic and motivation of people who do not agree with your (generic your not you specifically) position rather than a challenge of the government actions.

it would be much more useful to the discussion if you state position and make a case to defend your position rather than mock people who might believe differently.

obviously i believe in gov't transparency...
the glaring feature of totalitarian oppressive states is lack of transparency- secrecy if you will;
it is amazing to me that something as big as the bin laden killing (as just one example) could be just settled based on an account from the gov't with no independent verification...
i suppose that in the name of national security this can be accepted
but i just find it alarming that this whole thing can go down extra-judicial with no cross-examination from the characters involved...no evidence...and the world just accepts it & moves on...to me this is a scary thing;

obviously our bankrupt political system can not/ will not challenge this...and the people have come to feel so powerless under the weight of the propaganda machine that they can't effectively organize against the machine...
another feature of totalitarianism--- an inability of the population to challenge the power of the gov't;
you can't fight city hall
